Indians Begin 0-2

I've put off posting about the Tip Off Tournament for a few days now.  To those of you hanging in suspense, I sincerely apologize.  When starting this blog, I was really excited to inform all of you about the amazing journey taken by 21 young men on their efforts to make Donegal Basketball History.

After this weekend's games at the Northeastern Tip Off Tournament, I found myself searching for a bright spot to pass to you, trying to stay positive about the team's chances to realize their potential and exceed expectations.  The reality is...we are 0-2 and in last place in Section 3.  Both of the games were winnable but we didn't play up to our potential.

My mother can attest to my competative nature and absolute disdain for losing.  She will tell you about I accept defeat by placing full responsibility and blame upon my shoulders.  Mom, remember Warrior Run at home during senior year?

This behavior has transcended into my role as an assistant coach.  At the risk of sounding very "LeBronesque" maybe I have looked too far ahead and forgotten to show that it takes hard work to reach your goals.  Maybe I have inflated the egos and set unreasonable expectations for this extremely talented group of yound men who are still learning the game of basketball.  Maybe I have missed teachable moments and not aided the growth of these players as they strive for success.

The good news is we play again...tomorrow at Solanco.  Despite (Sorry Mrs. Pickering) the feeling of underachieving, the hope is we have all learned from the first two games of the season and are willing to apply what we have learned to realize our potential and earn our success.

Remember, as the great Mervalous Merv Shade quoted, "A setback is a setup for a comeback."

Stay tuned.

  1. "The hope is."

So glad you aren't hoping to be hopefully successful.
